How to Prepare For Your Headshot Photography Session?

You have decided that you are now ready for a new headshot, that’s wonderful!

A photo session is fun and relaxing and I want you to be comfortable and enjoy it.

Here are a few tips on how you can prepare yourself in the best way, and arrive ready.

1. Make sure that the time of the session is good for you and that you have plenty of time for it. There are different factors to take into account which all time, for example;

You might want to change clothing, and have professional makeup before the session. Perhaps there are more people from your company that are having photos taken at the same session and that also takes more time.

Maybe you want to try different locations, or even different backgrounds in your office, maybe you want to have some outdoor photos as well?

All in all, it’s important that you give your session the time it needs and not feel rushed. It has to be fun and relaxed. The photos are supposed to express yourself to the outside world and it’s important that you feel calm and relaxed to achieve the best look.

2. What to wear?

I would usually recommend you to bring 2-3 different outfits so you can have a choice.

But staying in 1 outfit is also good if that is what you prefer! The main thing is that you wear something that you are happy with.

Choose something that you feel comfortable in, and that you get compliments from other people who tell you that your clothing suits you.

The style of your clothes really depends on your role and what kind of impression you want to achieve. How do you want your potential clients to look at you when they see your photo? Is it smart or casual? Serious or funny?

The main thing is that you wear what makes you feel happy!

But as I say, I would recommend bringing a second shirt or outfit, and then you can have a choice of pictures.

3. Inspiration

I always like my clients to look, with me, at other pictures that I or other photographers have taken, so they can show me what they have in mind, what they like what they don’t like. Like this we can create an inspiration board and I can understand what they have in mind. Please have a look at my website. Can you email or WhatsApp me with your favourite style?

4. Hair

If you like to go to the hairdresser, please book her a few hours before our session, so your hair can look it’s best and you are happy.

For ladies, makeup

If it’s possible to have professional makeup done, that would be best. Usually it takes about 45 minute to 1 hour so make sure you have enough time before the photography session starts.

If you do it yourself, please keep your makeup simple and natural.

Don’t overdo it as you want to look natural and show your own beauty.

Please don’t put on anything glossy as it doesn’t look good on the photos.

Glasses? To wear them or not?

Usually I would suggest doing the same as you do in your daily life, as you want your clients to see you as you really are, but if you are not sure we can do both with and without and then you can choose which you prefer.

Make sure you have a brush and a mirror with you during the session, so you can check and fix yourself up if necessary.

Also, as we are very lucky to have digital equipment, during the session I’ll show you the pictures on the camera and you can see how you like them, and maybe to do some adjustments if needed.

Remember the photo will be how you present yourself, you need to be happy, relaxed and to think of positive things.

During the photo-shoot I’ll guide you, and if you have something specific in mind that you want to achieve please don’t hesitate to let me know.

I want you to be really happy with your pictures, so please tell me; I can only help you if I know what you want!
